Since its launch in 2004, the Lloyd’s List Greek Shipping Awards has been the best-supported event of its kind in the maritime world, regularly attracting audiences of 1,000 or more guests in person to the annual awards presentation dinner in Athens.
The credibility and popularity of the Greek Shipping Awards have only been underlined the last two years as we navigated successfully through the pandemic. A sector-leading digital event in 2020 and then a celebratory in-person dinner attended by 700 guests in 2021 only enhanced the reputation of the event.
We are hopeful of a full return to pre-pandemic conditions as we prepare for the 2022 Greek Shipping Awards this December.
Although we may live in uncertain times, the organisers will once again ensure that awards-night will be Greek shipping’s ‘Dinner of the Year’, not only in the sense that we will be looking back over 2021-2022 but also that the industry can look forward once again to a uniquely exciting event and one that fully reflects the status of the world’s largest shipowning and shipmanagement nation.
After decades controlling the world’s largest merchant fleet, the Greek shipping industry has little left to prove. However, recent years have once again underlined the professionalism and adaptability of the country’s shipowners and managers as they have dealt with the challenges of the pandemic, digitalisation and decarbonisation.
A fast-developing Greek maritime cluster in which home-grown maritime technology and service providers are increasingly competing on equal terms with their international counterparts has also been a welcome development and a rich source of achievements that are deserving of recognition.
With several sectors of the shipping industry enjoying strong market conditions, it is expected to be a highly competitive year in most if not all of the Greek Shipping Awards’ 18 categories of achievement.
Once again, a prestigious and highly knowledgeable panel of judges from across the industry have decided the winners of this year’s Awards and the audience can look forward to a night of suspense, surprises and entertainment.
