Founded in 1999, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. (SWS) is a subsidiary of China CSSC Holding Ltd., a publicly-listed company controlled by China State Shipbuilding Corporation Ltd. (CSSC).

SWS is among the largest, most modern and professional shipbuilders in the world.

SWS’s main business covers design, construction of marine vessels,  offshore products and large cruise ships.

SWS builds bulk carriers, oil tankers, container vessels ,gas carriers and car carriers. The company has delivered 16% of the world fleet of capesize bulk carriers ,10% of all LR2 and  8% of all VLCCs.

SWS is also one of the builders of ultra large container vessels above 20,000 TEU.

The SWS production line also includes FPSO, deepwater semi-submersible drilling rigs, jack-ups, drillships, and PSV. China’s first domestically built large cruise ship was delivered by SWS and the second one is under construction in drydock ,which will be launched next March as scheduled.

SWS is the first company in China to achieve the milestone of 100 million DWT delivery, with more than 600 merchant vessels and offshore products delivered.

In recent years, SWS has ranked amongst the Top 5 of the global shipbuilding industry with regard to completion of new ships, new orders and order book.
